Two Questions

Question:

1) In the Tobit book, the Archangel Rafael didnīt tell the truth when Tobit, the father, ask Him about who He was. Is it possible an angel or archangel to lie? Could you explain me it?

2) Regarding about Spiritual World, could someone be persecute by demons if his ancestors had contact with the deaths spirits? If it is possible, how to solve it?  Where can I obtain more information and help about it?

Answer:

Dr. Alexander Roman alex@unicorne.org

With respect to the Archangel Raphael, it is NOT that he lied to Tobit, but that he simply chose not to reveal his identity to him at that time.

If we should be drawn into gossip about someone we know and asked about that person's private life, for example, we may say something like, "I don't know anything about that" even though we may know full well about the details that are being sought by others.

Is that a lie? On the face of it - yes it is. Would it be a sin? No, not at all. Another example is in the Gospels when the Lord Jesus is asked by His relatives if He would be going to Jerusalem for the feast. Christ responds by telling them that He would not be going. He then later decided to go alone and attends incognito at first. Again, this is all a matter of intention and meaning.

Can someone be persecuted by demons for the sins of his or her ancestors?
Absolutely not! The point is that if someone or some place appears to be prone to what appears to be demonic activity - it is necessary to call on the Church and her priests to step in with the requisite blessings and exorcisms to resolve the matter.

In such a case, it is to no one's benefit to ponder WHY that would be occurring, but to ask for the Church's ministrations to ward off the evil.

I grew up in an old house where, on the third floor, there was quite the paranormal activity. I could hear, and remember to this day, voices speaking quickly to each other in the hallway. When I asked my parents about their late night guests, they said no one had been over to see them!

Then one night, around three o'clock in the morning, the lights went on in the room where I was sleeping - furniture actually moved around the room and then clothing began floating in the air eventually coming down to cover me from neck to toe . . .

A priest was asked to come by and bless our room which I shared with my brother (he was so frightened that he crawled out of the room). After this there were no further incidents.

I recently moved into a new home where, in the middle of the night, a series of ten hard knocks could be heard in the house. The number was always "ten" and in a series. I anointed the doorposts of our home with Holy Water and then a priest came to bless our house. The knocking stopped the very night when I used the Holy Water.

Anyone who feels he or she is affected by evil directly should immediately begin to pray and invoke the Name of our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Blessed icons should be put up with a Cross (one should wear a Holy Cross around one's neck and other sacred objects as one may) and Holy Water should be used to bless oneself, one should drink some etc. And a priest should be consulted.

We should always remember that the devils are angels. This means that they have awesome power. As one writer once put it, a single angel could reduce the earth to ashes with a mere act of its will, but God would not permit it.

St Peter reminds us that we are doing battle with powers and principalities. He means that we are struggling with demons who are the fallen angels. And this is the only battle where victory is assured by . . . retreating. We must retreat to the safe harbour of prayer, the Sign of the Cross and the Church's ministrations.
