I am a Catholic who believes it makes no difference if someone is Catholic or Orthodox. Also, I have received Holy Eucharist in the Orthodox Church in the past and I did not get permission from the Orthodox Priest to do so. I do not see any problem with a Catholic receiving Holy Eucharist in the Orthodox Church. answer

Skete Manjavskij: Bastion of Ukrainian Orthodox Spirituality
One of the most famous centres of Orthodox spirituality is also one of the most neglected in terms of study.  However, Sophia Senyk, a Ukrainian Catholic nun and professor of church history, has done much to fill in this gap by publishing a translation of three 17th century documents that discuss the history, personages and rule of life associated with the Manjava Skete. more

New Ukrainian Saints: Orthodox New Martyrs of Kholm glorified
On June 7-8 of this year at Kholm, which is now under Poland as "Khelm," the Polish Orthodox Church glorified the Ukrainian New Martyrs who perished in defence of their faith during the years 1942-1945.

Pastoral Meditation Can We Trust our Thoughts?

June 10, 2003 I read somewhere, but cannot remember the source, that in the Orthodox classic, "The Way of A Pigrim, it is suggested to readers that if they seek, pray, and still cannot find a starets they can go to a Sufi Sheik (Muslim) instead.  Is this correct?  I came across these lines in "The Way of A Pilgrim" and wonder if this is the section in question:  "For the holy Fathers assure us likewise, that if with faith and right intention one questions even a Saracen, he can speak worlds of value to us."  p. 195, HarperSanFrancisco, paperback version. answer

What is the Orthodox church position with respect to the death/afterlife of one's pet? I have a dog and I find it very difficult and sad to believe that when she dies (and/or after I die), that we may never be re-united in the afterlife after forming a life long bond of love here in our earthly life. answer

I am Wiccan, and was married before even though not in the eyes of the Lord.  I am engaged to a man who is orthodox and I am a bit confused on the remarrying issue?  What kind of permission do I have to get?  And from who?  His religion and faith is very important to him and I want to make I can do everything I can to make him happy. Even if I have to convert. Do I? And if so how do I go about doing that? answer

They anointed Elizabeth Queen and all sang out: God Save The Queen!
It is perhaps true that the best of institutions are taken for granted by the very people that benefit the most from them.  This is arguably the case with monarchies and especially the one that is shared by Britain, Canada, Australia and others.  As today is the fiftieth anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, we should pause to reflect on this momentous occasion and rediscover, if we need to, the enduring role the Crown plays in our lives. more

The Internet Christian Discussion Forum: Reflections of a Former Addict
The internet truly has revolutionized not only the way in which information is communicated, but, even more importantly, human relationships themselves.  The chat forums cover the widest possible range of subjects, including religion and the most detailed of Christian subjects.  As a former participant in one such forum, I wanted to share some thoughts on this enterprise. more

I have received a large 19th century Russian icon depicting God the Father. The Holy Spirit in the usual form of a dove is also shown. However, Christos is excluded. I have never before seen this particular representation. Is this unusual? answer

Another Patrick: Either Way, He Saves Us!
Every year in March every one discovers a little Irish in themselves and we celebrate the Feast of St. Patrick of Ireland.  There is another Patrick on the Church Calendar today who is virtually unknown to most.  He was the Bishop of a forgotten city called Prussa in Bithynia in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey).
