The Divine Incarnation Reaffirmed: Kharkiv's Miraculous Icon Not-Made-By-Hands
As the former Soviet Union imploded in upon itself, could any have thought that a spiritual "Spring" would arise amidst the ruins of its ashes? In addition to the glorification, ongoing as it truly is, of the numerous New Martyrs and Confessors, whose names and relics continue to be discovered and added to the Church Calendar, miraculous Icons appear regularly to the joy and edification of thousands of the faithful. One such icon was glorified in the region of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine . . .

The Flame in the Snow: The Centenary of St Seraphim's Glorification This year marks 100 years since the formal glorification/canonization of Saint Seraphim, the Wonderworker of Sarov. One of the most illustrious of all the Holy Elders of Orthodoxy, he is also widely known and venerated throughout the West. And one of the little known facts about his life is that St Seraphim was a Monk who was tonsured at the Kyivan Caves Lavra which is why a major conference on his life and work will be held there this year . . .

Kyivan Patriarchate and Ukrainian Orthodoxy
There are some groups, including the Moscow Patriarchate, that seem to vehemently oppose the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate. Why is the KP being persecuted? This is a question I have been asked recently.

Recently my sisters mother-in-law passed away and there was a funeral for her.  Just today though I found out that in two weeks there will be another ceremony for her ascension into heaven.  Can you please explain this.  I don't understand why this takes two weeks after the funeral instead of the same day as the funeral. answer

I visited Ukraine about four years ago. In several homes, I saw the same icon. It depicted a multitude of saints in black robes with halos about their heads. They were lining up about on a hillside. I was told by friends that it was an icon of the matyrs who died in gas chambers/concentration camps. Do you know the name of this icon? and how can I locate a copy of it. I would love to get one for my own home. It's image is still burned in my mind and heart. answer

I am looking for a Biblical explanation for our practice of praying for the departed to give to my fundamentalist Protestant aunt. More specifically, if we don't have a belief in purgatory like the Latins, what is the purpose of praying for the departed. I know that there is the understanding that one is fully deified prior to entrance into heaven, but isn't this an immediate thing, and if so, why are prayers necessary? Patristic evidence would also be appreciated.  answer
