May 26, 2003 I have heard that the Orthodox Church believes that there is a chance for the improvement of every soul until the Final Judgment. Is this true? If so, then can people who have died in serious sin be transported from their foretaste of hell to Abraham's bosom in paradise? Wouldn't this lead people to be rather lazy in their spiritual walk? I mean, it looks like we could do anything we wanted and have a second chance for salvation by the prayers and liturgies of the Church. answer

The Future of Ukraine in the balance: The way things look to Victor Yuschenko
Last week a famous Ukrainian politician and former Prime Minister of that country, Victor Yuschenko, paid Ukrainian Canada a visit. While it was to be expected that his eyes popped open at what he saw in terms of economic wealth in this country, he also raised a few eyebrows with his own painfully realistic message about current conditions in Ukraine.

May 21, 2003 Please explain the word "EPETEMIA" and how is it applied in Ukrainian Orthodoxy. What is the difference between EPETEMIA and EXCOMMUNICATION? What are the results of an EPETEMIA? Who may apply an EPETEMIA and under what conditions. As an Ukr. Orthodox for a long time (probably longer than you are alive) I have only recently heard of the word - obviously it is Greek. answer

May 20, 2003 As one who was baptised and chrismated in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, would I be permitted the sacraments, should I in my travels visit a Ukrainian Orthodox Church?  Beyond the matter of the calendar, I am sometimes confused as to with whom we are in communion. answer

May 16, 2003 I would like to ask you if there is a particular way to bury the Orthodox priests ? For example, in Greece we say that the priest is always buried “seated” and not lying down ; also we say that he is never exhumed. If there are some specificities, could you give me also the dogmatic explanation ? answer

Moscow in a patriarchal pout
On May 5th of this year, a copy of the Shroud of Turin was venerated in common by the leaders of the Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox Churches in Kyiv by way of an ecumenical supplicatory service or "moleben." Prayer has never been a more thrilling experience . . .
