Modern Era Prophets

Question:

I have a friend who has informed me that she follows a "Christian" Church who abides by the teachings of a so-called modern era prophet.  What can you tell me about this person and his teachings? How do they measure up to the teachings of the Orthodox Church? I suspect that he must be some type of false prophet so what can I tell her to try to convince her to NOT follow such heretical teachings?

Frankly, I've never heard of the individual you mentioned. And, ultimately, it is not all that important what he teaches.

The important thing is that he is not of the historic New Testament Church of Christ, the Orthodox Catholic Church!

He therefore cannot speak with Apostolic authority and we are forbidden to join with him by the Word of God, by Tradition and by the constant witness of the true Church of Christ.

Even IF his teaching was IDENTICAL to that of the Orthodox Catholic Church in many points, but he was not in communion with the Church (as he obviously is not) - then he and his group are outside of it and we cannot have anything to do with such.

Ultimately, it is not how close we are to the teaching of the historic Church of Christ in our own reasonings and the like that determines our Life in Christ.

It is our COMMUNION with and in the Body of Christ, His Church, and our obedience to its teachings that establishes us in the right and true way to the Kingdom of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
