Deaf Saints

Question:

I have some deaf friends who would like to know if there are any saints that reflect their lives. I have identified two people, but I have not had much luck finding anything other than their names and a feast day for one. They are Saint Mark the deaf-mute, feast day is January 2/15 and Arseny the Deaf (Arseny Glukhoi) who died 1643. Can you help me?

There are a number of Saints associated with those who are hearing challenged.

There is St Cadoc (Cadfael) of Llancarvan who died in 580 AD in Wales.  An austere monk, during a famine he once tied a thread to the foot of a very well-fed mouse who then led him to a great cache of hidden grain!  The feast of this hearing-impaired saint known to cure hearing-impaired people is on September 25th.

Then there is St Drogo ("Dreux"), a Flemish saint whose mother died in childbirth.  Upon learning this fact when he was ten years old, St Drogo felt responsible for his mother's death and became a life-long pilgrim as a form of penance.  It was on one of his pilgrimages that he was stricken with deafness.  His feast is April 16th and he lived in the twelfth century.

St Meriadoc ("Meredith") was a seventh century hermit in Brittany and formerly lord of a manor when he gave all to the poor.  Later in life he became hearing-impaired and his feast is June 7th.

St Ouen of Rouen ("Owen" or "Eugene") was not hearing-impaired but his relics cured people of their hearing problems.  He was an illustrious churchman who reposed in 684 AD.  He founded many charitable works for the poor and destitute in his region and sent missionaries to Christianize pagans.  He was an advisor to King Clothair II, King Dagobert, King Clovis II and to Queen St Bathild.
